Pax Autocratica Research Priority

Spend science on bottlenecks, not shiny distractions.

Pax Autocratica Research Priority

Research is one of the primary cornerstones of advancement in Pax Autocratica. Settlement tech, combat tools, and policy unlocks all compete for the same scarce attention. After Early Access launch (August 10, 2026), the winning habit is unchanged: unlock the bottlenecks that unblock production and survivable expeditions before chasing late toys.

Early research spine

  1. Warehouse / storage expansion — production dies when bins are full.
  2. Research Center — accelerates everything that follows.
  3. Basic automation and extraction efficiency — free your commander from permanent mining.
  4. Food and power sustain tools — population growth without calories is a riot timer.
  5. Ship yard / dropship cargo — more loot actually returns home.
  6. Only then lean into weapon specialization and flashy combat nodes.

This spine mirrors Day One doctrine on Day One Strategy and pairs with Skill Tree Priority.

Three research families

Think in three families even when UI labels differ by patch:

  • Logistics and production — warehouses, extractors, hauling, automation, refining.
  • State policy and surveillance — rationing, morale tools, security radius, propaganda.
  • Command and combat — core resonance, battalion tools, weapon crafts, tactical bureau healing quality-of-life.

Early game: logistics first, light policy for stability, minimal combat unlocks so your first sorties are not naked. Mid game: security hub radius and conscription quality once the economy can pay for them. Late game: automation systems that remove micromanagement and weapon specialization that keeps damage competitive.

What to delay

  • Luxury housing cosmetics and vanity monuments
  • Max-fear policy trees while food is still blinking
  • Rare-material weapon sinks before you understand your preferred gun family
  • Overlord-facing unlocks before Early Expeditions feel routine

Linking research to colony layout

A Research Center at the edge of a sprawling map wastes labor. Park research near the industrial micro-hub described in Colony Layout. When automation techs land, apply them only to routes you already understand—see Automation.

Linking research to combat

Core Fragment resonance and weapon crafts matter, but a durable commander with ammo crafts beats a glass cannon on empty magazines. After unlocking cargo and sustain, study Weapon Cores and Best Combos. For squad-facing nodes, open Squad Cores.

Session ritual

Before each long play block: pick one research goal, one colony bottleneck, one expedition objective. If research finishes mid-sortie prep, reassign scientists immediately—idle science is as wasteful as idle miners.

Midgame research pivots

Once warehouses, research speed, and basic automation exist, pivot toward cargo capacity, surveillance radius, and healing quality-of-life in the tactical bureau. These unlocks reduce the number of runs you throw away to greed or animation vulnerability. Only after those stabilizers land should you pour science into narrow weapon specialization trees.

Policy research without soft-locking morale

Rationing and morale tools are research, not just decrees. Unlock the minimum needed to keep workers productive under pressure, then stop. Max-fear trees can look efficient on paper and still collapse loyalty when food dips. Pair policy unlocks with the colony checks on Colony Management.

Combat research that actually returns home

Prefer unlocks that improve reload windows, shields, Capture Lock reliability, and squad sustain over pure damage nodes you cannot survive long enough to use. Validate each combat unlock on a short expedition before queuing the next one—science that never leaves the lab is theater.

Research debt and rare materials

High-tier alloys and modules should not fund vanity crafts. Spend rare materials on core production upgrades, automation, and weapons you will still use next week. If a research node demands scarce parts, ask whether it unblocks a bottleneck or merely paints a trophy.

Patch hygiene

Early Access will retune costs. After Steam notes for app 1067360, re-read this order and retest one short session. Keep Updates bookmarked beside the Research Center.

Research wrap

Science should buy time and surplus, not screenshots. Warehouse → Research Center → automation → sustain → cargo → combat polish. Revisit after balance notes, because prerequisites can retune during Early Access. Fingerprint research0810 marks this build article uniquely.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

What is the first research priority?

Storage/warehouse and research infrastructure so production and future unlocks are not stalled.

Should I rush weapon techs?

Only after food, power, automation, and cargo can support short expeditions.

How does research relate to the skill tree?

Treat this page as unlock order doctrine; Skill Tree Priority covers branch sequencing details.

Do Prologue research orders still apply?

Use them as habits. Verify live tooltips after the August 2026 Early Access unlock.
